A German press delegation from the North German news channel NDR - Norddeutscher Rundfunk - visited Denmark on a press tour on April 4-5, 2017. The aim of the visit was to produce a feature story about the transformation of the Danish healthcare sector with primary focus on centralization of hospitals and how this has affected the citizens.
On the first day, the delegation visited New Aarhus University Hospital, Central Denmark Region, where they visited the Department of Geriatrics and saw the daily routines of a nurse as well as interviewing an elderly hospitalized patient. Next, they interviewed the case manager at the Boards of Directors about the new special wayfinding system helping patients find navigate the hospital. In the afternoon, they interviewed both the Chief Medical Director at Aarhus Univeristy Hospital Claus Thomsen, as well as the CEO of Healthcare DENMARK, Hans Erik Henriksen, before ending the day in Vejle, where they spoke to a patient suffering from acute leukemia to hear how the centralization of hospitals has affected her treatment.
On the second day, the delegation visited ‘Vikærgården’, a rehabilitation center situated in Risskov near Aarhus, to interview a patient who, after her hospitalization, spent time here to gain knowledge about how to empower and support herself in her own home instead of spending time at the hospital. In the afternoon, the press delegation finished their day by visiting a local health center in Varde, in the Region of Southern Denmark to interview a patient who spent her rehabilitation at the center instead of going to a hospital.
